WIDIA Biocompatible Coating

Tornillo WIDIATreatment with tungsten carbide that provides the piece with greater resistance to fatigue. With this treatment a friction reduction is obtained and with it a duplication of the clamping force.

The preload is the degree of clamping force established when the abutment screw is tightened. This force holds the abutment firmly attached to the implant, which is essential for the performance of this. The values used in the application of the preload on the screws influence the success of the components of the system.

A problem associated with dental implant restorations is the loosening of the screw by the loss of preload. Recently, it has been demonstrated that the screws with surface treatment increase the preload by reducing the coefficient of friction.

¿WHAT IS WIDIA®?

Widia® is a coating based on tungsten carbide WC / C and therefore is a mixture of metal and carbon as hard as diamond. The result is the ideal way to reduce surface fatigue.

ADVANTAGES OF USING SCREWS WITH WIDIA® COATING

  • Secure and stable adjustment.
  • Less wear due to adhesion
  • Completely biocompatible
  • Sterilizable.
  • Greater resistance to wear.
  • Low coefficient of friction.

SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE ON CLINICAL SCREWS

It has been shown that an inadequate preload favors the relative movement between the components of the system, this results in the loosening or preload of the screw and an inappropriate performance against the fatigue of the pillar-implant complex.

MPI offers clinical screws optimized with Widia® treatment that guarantee a stable and stable fit between abutment and implant.

The coating with tungsten carbide that we commercialize with the Widia® brand has higher preload values than uncoated titanium screws.

The resistance of the preload increases in the screws with Widia® coating after the loosening and repeated tightening, in comparison with uncoated titanium screws. This type of phenomenon has been attributed to the way in which the coating is forced into the micro spaces of the threads as the screw is tightened in the implant. This boosts performance and fatigue resistance throughout the entire system.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO AVOID SCREW LOOSENING

The careful selection of the prosthetic components, the restoration and the screw will contribute to the success of the system. Some simple precautions can make the difference:

  • Always use the screw included in the prosthetic component.
  • Never use laboratory screws in a clinical setting.
  • Use instruments designed specifically for the screws.
  • Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding the insertion torque.
